Catholics Pay Final Respects To Bishop Emeritus Bosco

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- It was a somber day at the cathedral in Greensburg where Catholics from across Westmoreland County and beyond came to pay their final respects to Bishop Emeritus Anthony Bosco.

The former bishop continued to lay in state Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.

Catholics of all ages stopped in to pray for the retired leader of the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg.

Bosco served as bishop from 1987 until 2004. He was known for his wit and ability to get people involved in the church.

Retired Bishop Bosco died peacefully in his home last week while watching a Pirates' game. He was 85.

"We have been friends and affiliated with Bishop Bosco for decades," said Mark Tamilia, of Pittsburgh. "Bishop Bosco was very prominent in the Italian community in Pittsburgh and in Greensburg, and we are members of an Italian organization in Pittsburgh called ISDA, which he was very supportive of."

Public viewing will continue until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

It will resume Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and then be followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
