PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It’s a disturbing find.
A local family claims they found a dead frog in a bag of greens they got at the grocery store.
Collissa Williams of the North Side says the family had gathered on the Fourth of July. Her sister-in-law Gail Cooke was preparing the greens.
Cooke says at first she thought she was looking at a shriveled leaf, but then she saw the frog’s whole body. “I screamed actually. I was shocked. I screamed, ‘There’s a frog in the greens!’ And I dropped my spoon.”
Williams says it came from a bag of Glory Food’s kale greens bought at the Giant Eagle on the South Side.
She says Giant Eagle took her complaint very seriously and offered a refund.
But the product isn’t made by Giant Eagle, and she wants to make sure that Glory Foods does all that it can to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Glory Foods spokesperson Woody Swink told KDKA-TV, “It’s an isolated incident. We don’t take any complaint lightly. We’re investigating this. We at Glory Foods strive to put the best quality product and best flavored product in the can every day. We’re sorry for the customer who bought this product.”
Williams says Glory Foods offered her some coupons.
It says on the bag that the greens have been washed.
She says she’s thankful they noticed the frog before it got to the table, but she says the incident spoiled their holiday.
When asked to describe her reaction to it, she said: “Scared. Grossed out. Nasty. Disgusting. It ruined the whole day. It really did.”
A television station in Texas reported in 2009 that a woman found a frog in a bag of Glory Food’s Mustard Greens.
Just last month, another television station in Texas reported on a woman who claimed to find a frog in another company’s brand of salad greens.
