Brothers Run Over Trying To Stop Car

NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) -- Two men are lucky to be alive, after being run over while trying to stop a car from rolling down a hill.

Emergency crews were called to North Braddock Thursday night after Don Meklas, and Phil Matey were run over.

The accident happened in the 1000-block of Taylor Avenue.

The two men say they were trying to help out, when a car slipped from park into drive.

Meklas climbed in the car and tried to get the car back into park, while it was rolling down the hill.

"I just tried to dive in the car, and I seen the car taking off. I knew they'd go over the hill," Meklas said.

He ended up being dragged some 175 feet underneath the car.

Matey, the man's brother-in-law then tried to grab him and rescue him from the car. That's when he was dragged too.

"I just remember the ambulance coming, the ambulance was there. I looked down and there was no skin left on my leg," Matey said.

The car ended up hitting a pole and coming to rest in some brush.

Both men were taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
