Police Looking For Suspect After Officer Fired At Overnight

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are searching for a suspect and that suspect's vehicle after they say multiple shots were fired at an officer overnight in Homewood.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. at a home in the 7200-block of Race Street.

According to police, the officer was responding to a call at the home there when a vehicle pulled up in front and the gunfire rang out. The police officer had been standing in the doorway of the home.

Police say multiple people were in the home, gathering there after a family member had died earlier in the day. The officer was able to push the person he was speaking to in the doorway out of harm's way.

The officer reported hearing four to six gunshots.

Police say the vehicle, described as a white Chevrolet Impala, drove off toward N. Homewood Avenue. Investigators searched the area, but didn't find anything.

One person in the home suffered knee and elbow injuries when they fell to the ground during the gunfire, police said.

The officer was not hurt in the incident.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact the Pittsburgh Police Zone 5 station at 412-665-3605.
