Woman Found Shot To Death In Homewood

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) - Police are investigating after a woman's body was found in Homewood Tuesday evening.

According to police, the body was found just before 6 p.m. at the corner of Hallam and Perchment Streets in Homewood.

Police say 30-year-old Samantha Powe, of Garfield, died of a gun shot wound to the head.

A neighbor said he thought he heard gunshots during the storms Tuesday just before 4 p.m.

"I thought it might have been thunder. I came outside because I thought it might have been out on the street," Glen Corley said.

Sources said Hallam Street is a hangout for drug users and prostitutes. The victim may have gone unnoticed had it not been for someone who drove down and saw her.

"Firefighters were in the area, tending to a fallen tree when a witness came by and said there was a female lying face down at the end of this dead end road," Lt. Daniel Herrmann said.

Neighbors have concerns about the problems on Hallam and this only magnifies them.

"They should just close it off anyway. Take action from people going back there, do things, like we didn't know about this today," Willie Griffin said,

"It's pretty scary, considering I have a 2-year-old. It's kind of scary," Donna Griffin said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
