PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man has been charged after a 6-year-old was killed last year in a Route 28 crash.

Our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report that 39-year-old Kirk A. Fair has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the May 1, 2012 death of 6-year-old Elijah Straw.

Straw, in addition to his parents and brother, were traveling in their Pontiac Vibe when it suffered a mechanical malfunction and became disabled in a travel lane.

The car was then hit from behind by a Ford F-250 and both cars ended up in the grass median.

Straw died as a result of the crash. His parents and brother were also treated for serious injuries.
