Evening Storm Brings Heavy Rain, Causes Flooding

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An evening storm caught some areas by surprise with flooding and heavy rain.

The National Weather Service reports that people were trapped along Rt. 837 in Dravosburg when their car got caught in flood waters.

Other areas, including along Rt. 48, reported basement flooding.

In less than an hour, both Penn Hills and Braddock got about 1.25 inches of rain.

A flash flood warning is also still in effect for Allegheny County until 9:45 p.m.

The NWS warns that “excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flash flooding of
small streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and
other low-lying areas.”
