Greg Brown Dishes On Conversation With Jason Grilli

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Jason Grilli landed on the 15-day DL today with a right forearm strain suffered in last night's 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals, and after the game he spoke with broadcaster Greg Brown.

Brown joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller on The FAN to tell us what Grilli had to say about his injury.

"I thought his mood was a little bit better in the hotel lobby," said Brown. "I asked him how he was feeling, he used my arm as an example of where the pain was. He said he was really hurting.  I said, 'Well how long?' He said, 'I'm going to need a lot of rest.'"

The team has called up minor league reliever Vic Black to fill the void on the roster left by Grilli, and Brown tells us what he has heard about what Black can bring to the team.

"The other day when Neal Huntington, on his radio show, said at the All-Star Game, he [Vic Black] touched 101, according to reports," said Brown.  "He has been throwing in the high-90s so he's got obviously a power arm, and according to Clint Hurdle, an outstanding breaking ball."

Things wrapped up with Brown telling us what Manager Clint Hurdle told the media prior to tonight's game about how he'll handle his closer role while Grilli is out.
