Massive Mud Slide Closes Road

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- More than 100 tons of mud and debris -- that's how Allegheny County Public Works employees describe a huge mudslide in Monroeville.

Early Tuesday evening, a portion of the hillside on Pitcairn Road came crashing down onto the highway.

It pushed trees, branches and dirt right into the front yard of an abandoned house.

The road is closed until further notice as crews clear the road and repair downed power lines in the area.

The origin of the collapse is above the hill off of Taylor Street.

That's where Nick Hauck lives.

He told KDKA's Kym Gable, "It just washed away the hillside, 20 feet wide. Unbelievable -- our house is on a hillside like this. It could very easily wash out like this."
