Missing Man Found Safe In Kennedy Twp.

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man who went missing earlier this evening, setting off an intensive and extensive search in Kennedy Township, has been found safe.

After several hours of searching, the 55-year-old man was located around 10:30 p.m. walking along Chartiers Avenue in the West End by Pittsburgh Police.

Searchers in the air and on the ground canvassed Kennedy Township neighborhoods for the man. He had last been seen on Coraopolis Road.

Officials were concerned because he has health issues and is unfamiliar with the Kennedy Township area. Nightfall and the wet weather also presented problems for the search crews.

The man was visiting the home of an acquaintance just before he disappeared.

The friend left the home briefly, and when he returned, the man was gone.

Authorities set up a command center at a Kennedy Township school during the extensive search.

Crews from Moon Township, Robinson Township, Stowe Township, Kennedy Township and McKees Rocks all assisted in the efforts.

Authorities also brought in a helicopter, several ATVs and a canine officer.
