PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It’s the “Dog Days of Summer” this week on Pittsburgh Today Live.
We’re introducing you to adoptable dogs from various shelters around the city in hopes of getting some adorable four-legged friends into forever homes.
The adoptable furry friends include:
Monday: Van Gogh, a mix breed who is just under a year old. (Western Pennsylvania Humane Society)
Tuesday: Mare, a Pit Bull terrier mix who is a year and seven months old (Animal Rescue League)
Wednesday: Mary, a Beagle mix who is about 6-years-old (Animal Friends)
Thursday: Las Vegas & Cranked Up, 2-year-old Greyhounds (Steel City Greyhounds)
Friday: Babe Ruth, 8-year-old Beagle (Animal Friends)
The Animal Rescue League, a no-kill shelter, is always looking for loving homes for pets.
“I’ve actually never seen it this packed,” Mary Withrow, a volunteer with the Animal Rescue League, said. “This year has been pretty incredible. We typically take in about 13,000 animals a year and it looks like we’re on track for maybe a little bit more than that this year.”
According to Withrow, 650 cats have been surrendered at the shelter just in July alone.
“We’re an open door shelter, so the answer is never no,” said Withrow. “That could even mean that staff has to take an animal home for the night if that’s what we have to do. We don’t euthanize for time or lack of space or anything like that. So there’s a lot of animals, but the door is always open.”
