1 Killed, 4 Injured In Washington County Crash

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A teenager was killed and four other people were injured in a Tuesday night crash in Washington County.

According to the Coroner's Office, the accident happened on Brush Run Road in Independence Township around 11:30 p.m.

Sierra Minor, 16, of Claysville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:

According to police, Minor lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp left curve at a high-rate of speed.

The vehicle went off the road, struck a tree and rolled over an embankment.

Friends described Minor as a funny, outgoing, and a sweet girl who was always surrounded by friends and a beautiful young woman both inside and out.

Minor attended McGuffey High School.  Superintendent Beverly Arbore could not talk about the other individuals injured, but issued a statement about Minor:

"The McGuffey School District and the entire community are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our student, Sierra Minor, and our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Sierra's family. I have spoken with Sierra's sister to express our condolences and offer our support. No family should ever have to experience this type of tragedy."

The four passengers, two 15-year-old girls, a 21-year-old man and a male whose age is not known, in the vehicle were taken to area hospitals with serious to critical injuries. They have not been identified.

None are believed to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash as well.
