Westmoreland Co. Woman Upset Over Condition Of Mother's Gravesite

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- MaryAnn Steele can't understand why her mother's final resting place in the Hillview Cemetery in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, still looks the way it did right after her mother was laid to rest in late May.

Rita Nye died at the age of 84 on May 25.

Steele told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti: "My mother didn't deserve this; she was a good woman. I loved her dearly."

Two months have passed and Steele has not been able to reach anyone at the Hillview Cemetery Association, a private group that operates the cemetery.

The cemetery has no church affiliation.

After paying the cemetery burial fee of $878, Steele says she and her family expected the cemetery plot would be properly cared for, but that has not been the case.

KDKA tried to contact the Hillview Cemetery Association repeatedly Wednesday night without success.

Steele says she's both frustrated and angry about what's happened, and when she calls the number listed for the cemetery she gets an answering machine number but never once a return phone call.
