PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you’ve been dying to try out a new restaurant, this may be the perfect time because it is Restaurant Week in Pittsburgh.
With 69 restaurants taking part, this summer’s Restaurant Week is bigger than ever.
From Italian to Mexican to seafood and Cajun, there is really something for just about every taste bud.
“Pittsburgh, we’re not all about the coleslaw and the French fries anymore. We definitely have expanded and there’s a big food renaissance right now in Pittsburgh,” Restaurant Week Director Brian McCollum said.
Restaurant Week is feeding that renaissance
Organizers said typically the restaurants see a 150 percent increase in sales for the week.
But, it’s not just about business – the customers benefit too.
“The restaurants are offering a dining deal. So, not only can you try out a lot of great things, you can also do it at a discount,” McCollum said.
For example, at James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy on the North Side, you can enjoy a three-course fixed price meal for $30.
The owner said the event is fun for the cooks and staff, but there is also a long-term perk.
“We have found in the past restaurant weeks that we have people come in, love what they had, love the atmosphere and now they have become regular guests,” Lisa Saftner said.
Restaurants all over the area have joined in, so it’s not just places within city.
“It expands beyond city limits, all the way to Latrobe, Harmony, Canonsburg. So, I like to say that during Restaurant Week, there’s always a restaurant near you that you can get a great dining deal,” McCollum said.
In addition to showing off some great dishes, restaurant owners and chefs are highlighting how they can accommodate special diets like gluten-free and vegan.
Restaurant Week runs through Sunday, Aug. 18.
