PITTSBURGH (93.7 THE FAN)–The Pirates begin a three-game set with a team that is three games behind them in the NL Central tonight when they take on the Cardinals in St. Louis. To talk about the divisional race, the Fan Morning Show was joined by CBS Sports’ baseball writer, Danny Knobler.
If you asked Danny a few weeks ago who would win the division, he would have said the Cardinals without question. But, the Red Birds have hit a bit of a rough patch in their season which places doubt in his mind. However, the Pirates were swept by the Rockies to coincide with the Cards’ struggles causing Danny to not have a lock-down winner.
“People knew, based on the last two years that the Pirates have talent,” Knobler said about how shocking it would be if the Pirates made the playoffs. “If they finish it off, it would be a great story.”
With the last two seasons ending in a collapse, it is still on the mind of many Pirates fans, and as Danny tells us, some people in the Pirates organization. Realistically, Danny tells us that missing the playoffs is such a slim chance, that even if the Pirates struggle, they will likely still be a Wild Card team.
