Hundreds Roll Out To The Strip For Annual Bocce Ball Tournament
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Hundreds of people showed up in the Strip District Saturday afternoon for the fourth annual Bocce Tournament.
It was held at DUVBO, or "Down Under the Veterans Bridge Overpass" near the Heinz History Center.
Vying to win the $7,000 grand prize were 31 teams of four players.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Italian American Fund at the history center and each year the event has only gotten bigger.
"Part of it is the Italian community really turns out, but take a look around and you'll find a lot of other people who live here in the Strip District are stopping by," said Heinz History Center President Andrew Masich.
In addition to watching bocce ball players show off their skills, attendees enjoyed live music by Pure Gold, Vito DiSalvo & Daniela Pasquini and Jimmy Sapienza.
