Man In Custody After Washington Co. SWAT Incident

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man is in custody after a SWAT incident ended peacefully in Washington County Monday morning.

Police and SWAT were called to the Comfort Inn on Meadowlands Boulevard in North Strabane Township around 5 a.m.

It was a tense situation for police after a man from Tulsa, Okla. heavily damaged his hotel room. He claimed someone wanted to kill him.

When police arrived at the Comfort Inn, 31-year-old Raymond Chui had broken the window in his hotel room and refused to come out.

"A lamp from inside the room was found outside of the broken window and was the object used to break the window out. Officers attempted to gain entry into the room, No. 301, however the door was barricaded," Det. John Wybranowski said.

Additional police were called to the hotel and the Washington County SWAT team was activated. The section of the hotel was sealed off. Fortunately, the standoff ended peacefully.

"The subject after approximately one hour, voluntarily exited the room and was taken into custody. The subject was then transported to the Washington Hospital and admitted for an evaluation," Wybranowski said.

Police said Chui is a land acquisition agent for the Marcellus Shale industry. He was unarmed and they said he was upset over a break up.

"During our contact with Mr. Chui, he indicated that prior to the incident he had ingested more than a prescribed dosage of a prescribed medication that he was currently taking. I believe that was what triggered the event," Wybranowski said.

Chui will face charges once he's released from the hospital.
