Tiki Barber: Shoes A Big Factor In Foot Injuries Such As Le'Veon Bell's

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Former NFL star and current CBS Sports Radio morning show co-host Tiki Barber joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to offer a running back's perspective on Le'Veon Bell's foot injury, and on what Bell has to offer when healthy.

Barber told the guys that new shoe technology leads to many of these injuries, because ball carriers are quicker on their feet, which makes them feel more agile. Because of this, they like to use these lighter shoes that don't have the same protection as older shoes, which can lead to injuries. He said that this issue is psychological in nature, because the backs think that if they feel good, then they will be better-equipped to steer clear of trouble, which isn't necessarily true.

He said that the loss of Bell will likely lead to a lack of consistency in the running game, which would force Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley to rely heavily on the passing game, making the offense predictable.

He sees the Steelers as a big question mark for him in the AFC North this year, though he's a big fan of Mike Tomlin. He feels that the Steelers got old quickly last year, making it important that they get their young players up to speed quickly.
