1 Injured In Route 28 Head-On Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - One person was injured in a head-on crash on Route 28 Monday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the crash happened on the southbound side of the road around 11 a.m.

A vehicle initially traveling north got on the ramp at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle told other witnesses that he encountered traffic he could not avoid. As a result, he went across the median and into oncoming traffic when he struck a van.

"Basically, I was heading to my next job. I was coming down [Route] 28 here and the next thing I know, I was spinning in 360 [degree] circles. The guy crossed the median and you see what happened," Ronald Weigner said.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Traffic has since reopened in both directions.
