Cat Expected To Recover After Found Burned And Abused

LAWRENCE COUNTY (KDKA) -- In Lawrence County, police in Union Township are investigating after a cat was found emaciated and badly burned.

The cat had been seen roaming the past week or so in the High Street neighborhood.

Bob Rowell, who is now caring for the cat, says neighbors have been overheard saying the feline was strung up, and then set on fire.

"About a week ago, I heard about her," he said. "She was roaming the streets. Neighbors they (were) putting food out and everything and I says, 'I haven't seen her.'"

But Sunday night he said he spotted the cat.

After hearing what happened to her, Rowell named her hope.

‎Dr. Maureen Altman, at the North Memorial Animal Hospital in nearby New Wilmington where the cat was treated today, told KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Monday night that despite the trauma the animal suffered, her prognosis is good, once she puts on some weight and regains her strength.

No one has been charged in the case.
