College Community Mourns Shaler Teen's Death

LORETTO (KDKA) - Hundreds gathered at St. Francis University to mourn the loss of a Shaler teen, who was shot and killed by her father last week.

According to police, Laurin Edwards, 19, was shot and killed by her father in their home on Winterset Drive. Her mother and brother were also shot, but survived.

Edwards was just about to head back to college at St. Francis University for her sophomore year.

Hundreds gathered on campus Sunday night to remember the teenager. Those who knew her, opened up about the tragedy by sharing a few memories about their friend.

"She worked so hard - completely dedicated girl and she gave her all to the sorority and to the entire campus straight from the start. And it's definitely a huge loss to the whole community to not have her with us this semester. Laurin was just an incredible person and her joy and her love of life was contagious. And no one can replace her. It's a shame," Rebecca Null said.

St. Francis is offering grief counseling for students.

Her father, Jim Edwards, took his own life in the shooting. He was reportedly going to be fired the day that he opened fire on his family.
