Family Safely Escapes Franklin Park House Fire

FRANKLIN PARK (KDKA) - Fire ripped through a family's home overnight, which forced them to leave with just the clothes on their backs.

It was a terrifying awakening for the Franklin Park family when fire erupted in their garage around 2:30 Monday morning.

The raging flames engulfed the right side of the two-story home in the 1400-block of North Chevlin Court.

Next door neighbors, who had their siding melt off from the intense heat, said they heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion before firefighters starting banging on their door to have them evacuate.

After Franklin Park firefighters knocked down the blaze, the Allegheny County Fire Marshal arrived at the scene.

The family was able to get out of the burning building without any injuries.

The fire marshal said before he can go in to investigate, the house has to be boarded up to support the structure because it could come down.

The family is not allowed back inside.
