North Versailles Home Catches Fire The Day Resident Moves Out

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man who planned to move out of his home today returned to the house to find dozens of firefighters battling a blaze inside.

It started after 4 p.m. at a home in the 500-block of 3rd Street, when flames broke out in the basement off the two-story home.

No one was injured and crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.

"Got here, found a light smoke condition coming," Deputy Fire Chief Mike Volpe said. "The house was all secured up, we had to make entry into the front door, got into the front found the smoke condition in the first floor and the crews found a fire in the basement."

It's unclear what started the blaze.

The fire marshal is investigation.
