Crews Battle Fire In Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE (KDKA) – Butler Street was shut down early Friday morning as crews battled a fire in Lawrenceville.

The street was closed between 51st and 52nd streets.

Fire crews started to leave the scene around 6 a.m.

The fire started around 3 a.m. at the Metamorphosis Salon and Day Spa in the 5100-block of Butler Street.

There are also two apartments above the salon and firefighters say a 25-year-old woman was asleep inside one of the apartments.

She did wake up after hearing the commotion and was able to get out, however.

The owner of the salon says the business just celebrated its two-year anniversary.

"It's like watching everything that I worked for since I was 15 just burn to the ground," said salon owner Mia Scarfone, "and just smoke everywhere and watching them break the windows was just (heartbreaking)."

Fire officials say there's about $80,000 worth of damage.

No word on what started the blaze, but officials say nothing about the fire seemed suspicious.
