Vessel Hits Smithfield Bridge

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Officials closed down the Smithfield Bridge after it was hit by a vessel.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The Coast Guard reports that the bridge was hit when a barge rubbed against the right descending tier of the bridge.

However, shortly after being hit, inspectors determined that the bridge was safe.

It has since been reopened.
