Police: W. Va. Man Choked Woman With Alert Necklace

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A Morgantown man is charged with beating a 91-year-old Fairmont woman and choking her with a medical-alert necklace that she activated to call 911.

The Dominion Post says Monongalia County sheriff's deputies charged 32-year-old Sean Michael McDaniel with malicious wounding and violent crimes against the elderly.

A criminal complaint says McDaniel slammed the woman's face into the side of her home, then hit, kicked and choked her.

Deputies say she was bleeding from the chest and mouth, and had a friction burn on her neck.

Chief Deputy R.L. Wright says the motive for the attack is unclear.

McDaniel had worked for the woman for about a week.

Marion County court records show McDaniel is free on $50,000 bond and has requested a court-appointed lawyer.

He has no telephone listing.
