Yet Another Mattress Store Going In On McKnight Road

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Walk into any mattress store and the number of choices is mind-boggling.

Now, multiple those choices by 12 and you come up with the number of places along McKnight Road in Ross Township that are selling mattresses.

When Select Comfort arrives across from Kohl's in the building soon to get under construction, the dozen choices will be complete.

Ross Township Commission Chair Grant Montgomery has no idea why McKnight Road has become the home of mattress wars.

"For people in the township, it's great because you are guaranteed a good price on a mattress," says Mongomery.

Between the stores in Ross Park Mall and the stand alone stores, vast selection is a vast understatement.

"It's good and bad because it drives business and you have people checking out each and every store," said Bruce Twigg, of Mattress Discounters.

But a mattress is hardly a weekly purchase.

"A lot of people have had them for 20 to 30 years, that's way too much," said Twigg.

Especially if all these stores are to survive.

"It's out of sight, the competition," said Twigg. "The best salesman wins."
