2 In Custody After Standoff At Bloomfield Apartment Building

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An lengthy standoff in Bloomfield ended with a man and woman being taken into custody.

Pittsburgh police and the SWAT team surrounded an apartment in the 4300-block of Main Street near Howley Street in Bloomfield around 5 p.m. after reports that an armed woman was holed up inside.

That woman, identified as 24-year-old Sierra Brown, was seen earlier in the day running through the street in only her underwear with blood smeared on her hands.

A 24-year-old man was inside the apartment with her.

Police say there was no domestic dispute, but the two were allegedly under the influence of narcotics, which kept pepper spray from affecting them.

"We entered the structure; we encountered both of the suspects underneath blankets where they had covered themselves in an attempt to not succumb to the effects of the OC spray," said Lt. RaShall Brackney, of Pittsburgh Police. "We put approximately 29 rounds of OC spray inside the house with no affects whatsoever."

Police had to physically pull the blankets off of the couple, at that point Brown surrendered but the man got into a struggle with police and a Taser was used when taking him into custody.
