Pierogies Featured At Heinz History Center's Annual Food Event

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Hundreds showed up to taste a little bit of the 'Burgh at Heinz History Center's Hometown-Homegrown event.

This was the second year for the event, which featured food from local vendors, including some of the region's best pierogies.

Organizers say it's only grown since last year.

Since organizers featured a cookie table at last year's event, this year they decided to step it up with a contest for "Pittsburgh's Perfect Pierogi."

Included in the contest were Samantha Stone Catering, S&D Polish Deli, Sinful Sweets, James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy, as well as Braddock's American Brasserie.

And after all was said and done, the cheese and potato pierogies with sauteed onions by S&D Polish Deli in the Strip won as "Pittsburgh's Perfect Pierogi."

Visitors were also asked to bring in their own pierogi recipes.

The event also featured cooking demonstrations, including one with Rick Sebak.
