Cement Truck Goes Over The Side Of I-79

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The driver of a cement mixer was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after the vehicle rolled over a hillside off of Interstate 79.

The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes on an s-curve of I-79 in Robinson Township near Neville Island.

State police identify the driver as 58-year-old James Landsberger of Bessemer, Pa.

According to police, Landsberger lost control of the truck and drove into a grassy field, hit a tree and then plunged over a 100-yard hillside, hitting several more trees on the way down.

State police say the driver crawled up the hillside and then flagged down a state police trooper for help.

Landsberger was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

No word on his condition.
