Fast-Moving Storms Cause Flooding, Damage In Cheswick, Other Areas
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Heavy rain and high winds hit places like Harmar Township, Cheswick and Springdale late Wednesday afternoon, leaving behind damage and a big mess to clean up.
Scattered power outages left many homes and businesses in the dark.
Clyde and Patti’s Tavern on Freeport Road in Cheswick closed early because power was out.
Owner Clyde Vitale told KDKA-TV that this was normally one of his busiest nights of the week.
KDKA’s Ralph Iannotti Reports:
“This is my best night of the week, it’s our wing night. We are hurting,” said Vitale. “I sent three employees home, we got nothing going on. We’re going to have to shut it down.”
Meanwhile, for drivers, it was slow going because traffic lights were out.
Two large pine trees in Donna Bantine’s front yard were uprooted by the strong winds.
“Two massive pine trees, huge, and I’m just thanking God they went in the direction they did because everyone’s house and car is safe this evening,” said Bantine’s
And homeowner Christianne McCall in Cheswick said when her kitchen windows started to shake because of the wind, she and her family ran into the cellar.
“Not five minutes later, the treehouse, little clubhouse was knocked over, his grill was knocked over,” said McCall. “It was so fast, but it was nothing like I’ve ever seen before.”
