PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)-The Pirates ensured a series win over the Texas Rangers with a 5-4 win Tuesday night. Mark Melancon closed the door with two runners on base. Bob Walk told The Fan Morning Show that at this point in the season, every game is important.
“It kind of shows how important every single game is at this point,” Walk said. “You just can’t take anything for granted, you can’t really relax, it’s almost playoff-type baseball right now.”
Jason Grilli allowed one run over two-thirds of an inning Tuesday night. Walk said that the club isn’t ready to have him in high-leverage situations just yet.
“I think until he goes out there and has a couple of those wipe out-type innings like we’re used to seeing, they’re still going to try and find situations to get him in where there’s no pressure,” Walk said.
The Pirates return home Thursday night for an eleven game homestand, starting with eight games against the Cubs and Padres. Walk said that the club needs to win those two series.
“I would love to win six of those games, to be honest with you,” Walk said. “I don’t know why not. The season’s on the line, this is the kind of stuff you got to do.”
