What Do You Need To Know Before Bringing Home A Stray Animal
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio1020 KDKA) - The daughter of KDKA Radio's Bill Rehkopf recently came home with a stray kitten and wants to keep it.
There are obvious concerns and questions to consider before saying yes or no.
So we went to the expert, you know him as the host of Animal General on KDKA, Dr. Mike Hutchinson.
He joins Bill on the Afternoon News with some advice on the best course of action when taking in a stray animal.
"Obviously, you want to get it into a vet to determine the sex. Then, observe the kitten for about 10 days just in case it was exposed to a rabid animal," says Dr. Mike.
He also talks about making a connection with the kitten.
"Socialization is key," he says. "At four to eight weeks is the best time in the world to establish a connection."
