HOMEWOOD (KDKA) — Dana’s Bakery has been a fixture on North Homewood Avenue since the 1970s.

So when a man walked in, waving a silver revolver last Tuesday afternoon, the baker knew it wasn’t lady locks he was after.

“Pointed a gun at the baker and made off with an undetermined amount of money,” said Zone-5 Commander Timothy O’Connor.

The alleged robber was identified as 26-year-old Deandre Lee Brown of Homewood.

Detectives from Zone-5 started staking out the area — it finally paid off.

Five days after that robbery, some good police work led to Brown’s arrest, just around the corner from the bakery on Kelly Street.

Brown was picked-up about 10:30 a.m.

“Getting into a green SUV parked in the 7000-block of Kelly Street,” O’Connor said.

Police say he was visiting a girlfriend.

“He was taken into custody without incident, although he had a firearm on his person that we recovered at the time also,” O’Connor said.

Brown is charged with armed robbery.

Police are looking to see if additional charges might be filed because of the other weapon recovered.
