Pirates Fans Excited To Get Their Hands On Playoff Tickets

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It has been a long time coming. Pirates fans have been waiting for decades for the shot to buy playoff tickets.

This morning, their dream came true.

Long-time friends Karen Koszak and Karen Evans-Meyers were at PNC Park early hoping for a shot at buying playoff tickets.

"We have waited so long. Could be the lucky number today," Koszak said.

"I've gone so far to eight games and they have won seven of those eight times," Evans-Meyers said.

She hoped her luck would continue as they drew the winning numbers.

Ed Frank was first in line.

"My son has never seen a playoff game, so this will be his first one. We are ready for it, and we are ready to see the Pirates go all the way," Frank said.

The lottery system worked without a hitch. The number one guy in line got his tickets and so did many others. Everybody wanted to line up to make sure that they got the most popular pieces of paper in Pittsburgh.

"I just took a chance. I came over at lunch time yesterday because I work next door, got my bracelet, called and got the number about a quarter-till and ran right over here and here I am," Roxanne Heineman said.

I have a lot more friends now," John Paravati said. "But, I plan to go to all of these games. I've been waiting a long time for this."

Frank rode the trolley with his dad to see games at Forbes Field. Now, he has tickets to take his 23-year-old son to four playoff games at PNC Park, even though he is banking on not going to the first one.

"I am counting on getting a refund on the Wild Card. That's the goal. I'll give that one up," Frank said.

The Pirates are back in action tonight against the San Diego Padres. They currently trail the St. Louis Cardinals by one game in the NL Central Division race.
