Doctor Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Patients Faces New Charges

FOX CHAPEL (KDKA) – The list of charges against Dr. Raja Chakrapani got a little longer bit Monday when the Fox Chapel doctor was arraigned on new charges of indecent assault and harassment against patients in two of his offices.

"Dr. Chakrapani did nothing wrong," said defense attorney Patrick Thomassey. "He did standard exams on these alleged victims, two of whom there are letters in their files saying 'I don't want to be your doctor anymore because all you want is drugs when you come here.'"

The new charges bring the total number of alleged victims to four. Victims the defense believes all know one another.

The allegations are somewhat similar. They were all alone with the doctor at the time the alleged inappropriate touching, rubbing, groping or kissing took place.

The new incidents allegedly occurred in Swissvale and West Mifflin. In one of the new cases, Jane Doe alleges, "He would often caress her breasts with his hands and it was not a normal breast exam."

"Most of it doesn't make any sense," said Thomassey. "You keep going to a doctor who you say he touched you inappropriately in January for example and you keep going to him every two weeks until July?"

Monday's hearing was postponed until next Monday afternoon and all of the cases will be presented at one time.

Dr. Chakrapani remains free on bail, but he is suspended from practicing medicine and is to have no contact with the alleged victims in the case.

"I maintain vehemently that he didn't do anything other the standard practice of medicine with these women," said Thomassey.
