PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) — Former Pirates pitcher and current color commentator Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for his weekly “Walk on Wednesday” interview.

Walk lauded Gerrit Cole for delivering another strong outing last night. He said it looks like Cole has been here for seven or eight years, rather than just a few months. Walk also praised Cole for his demeanor and for being able to buckle down and focus when needed.

Walk thinks that Cole might make his start on Sunday regardless of whether or not that game means anything.

Walk also told the guys that he thinks Neil Walker has been doing a much better job taking tough pitches against lefties, which Walk sees as part of Walker’s recent hot streak.

Finally, Walk said that he thinks Jordy Mercer has been getting more comfortable in the field this season, but might have been thrown off by his rough outing out there on Friday night. Walk thinks that Mercer might get less playing time going forward when the Pirates’ starting pitcher is a guy that allows a lot of ground balls.

“Walk on Wednesday” can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m. during Pirates season.
