Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette: 'It's There For The Taking'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette joined The Fan Morning Show following the Steelers' 19-6 win over the Jets yesterday for their first win of the year.

Bouchette said he thought it was a huge step forward for both the offense and the defense. It's a start, but when you are 0-4, you have to take it one step at a time.

The offense did look pretty good yesterday.

"It's a much better relationship this year," Bouchette said of the much discussed relationship between Steelers Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "Whatever happened last year was last year. The entire offense has made a great effort to get on the same page."

He said a big reason for the offense having success was it was the first time they were able to play with a lead and teams were not keying on them knowing they had to come back.

So, what was the key to this win? Ed says it's pretty simple. They didn't turn it over and they finally got a turnover.

He said the first turnover was all on Jets quarterback Geno Smith making a bad throw, but the second was all on the pass rush and Jarvis Jones.

This win doesn't heal all of the wounds, but it does add more juice to the Ravens game coming up next Sunday.

The win yesterday and the struggles of the rest of the division makes you wonder if the Steelers are back in the mix?

"It's there for the taking," said Bouchette of the Steelers' hopes of winning the division. "It's a pretty big hole they made and they can't afford any more slip-ups."

The Steelers do have games remaining against all of the teams in the division and could still keep hopes alive.

The game on Sunday against the hated Ravens could either mean that they are right back in the mix with a win or a loss could all but destroy their hope.
