Armstrong Co. Toddler Hospitalized After Pit Bull Attack

ARMSTRONG COUNTY (KDKA) – A 2-year-old is in the hospital after she was attacked by a pit bull.

It happened at a home in Elderton, Armstrong County.

The little girl climbed onto the pit bull's back to try and hoist herself over a child gate.

But the dog snapped on the child – and latched onto her arm.

Signs warn visitors about the dog inside the Route 422 home in Elderton.

But they weren't enough to protect a young child who was living here.

The 2-year-old victim and her parents were staying at the home temporarily at the time of the attack.

Police say the little girl tried to climb over a child gate by climbing onto the pit bull's back and that caused the dog to attack.

The pit bull clinched its jaws around the girl's left arm so tight that the owner had to forcibly remove the animal.

The little girl was flown to Children's Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

No one answered the door at the home today, but police tell KDKA that no charges are expected.

The dog has also been put down as a result of the attack. The little girl is expected to need extensive surgery on her arm.
