PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -Steelers linebacker Larry Foote joined The Fan Morning Show on Tuesday to recap the Steelers’ 19-6 win over the Jets.
He predicted on the show last week that this would be the game that the Steelers would finally end that drought of having no takeaways.
“(laughs) Glad we caught the ball this time,” Foote said. “Turnovers are the key to victory.”
The Steelers, by getting the two turnovers Sunday against the Jets, avoided being the only team in NFL history to open the first five games of a season without a takeaway.
“You don’t want that record,” Foote said. “Now we just got to get on a roll.”
Foote said playing with a lead for the first time this season really helped the defense.
Now, the Steelers could find themselves right back in the mix if they can get a win Sunday at home against their bitter rival – the Baltimore Ravens.
A loss could all but end the season.
“We control our own destiny,” Foote said.
When talking about making the playoffs. “We have the talent. We have the quarterback. We just need to execute.”
Foote is right. With five divisional games left and nobody really running away with the division, the Steelers do have a chance to get back if they can stack a few wins together.
It will not be easy as they play the defending Super Bowl champs this week and quarterback Joe Flacco.
Larry says that Flacco has grown up since they have been playing him. He said he has become the true leader of that team and can throw the deep ball better than anyone in the league.
“This will be a big challenge for us,” Foote said.
Foote also shared his thoughts on Ryan Clark’s comments regarding being misquoted by the media. “Ryan is part of the media.” Foote said. “He has to understand how it goes.”
Foote said he has had a few stories that he has not agreed with, but your play on the field can keep all of the negatives from coming out.
“If you play good they can only write good things,” Foote said. “Even though they put their name to it. I am the author.”
