Money Stolen From Man Forced To Evacuate His Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Westmoreland County man who was forced to evacuate his apartment because of a water main break says he was victimized a second time.

An extensive cleanup effort continues at Duff Manor in Export where the break happened.

Police say a 67-year old man was in such a hurry to get out that he forgot to lock his door.

When he returned the next day to gather some belongings, he found that $2,100 that he had been keeping in three envelopes in his dresser drawer was missing.

It's not clear if the thief was another resident, a cleanup worker or someone from the outside who saw the tragedy as an opportunity to strike.

Police plan to pursue any and all leads.

Workers at the scene tell KDKA the victim's apartment was so badly damaged that he is now living in a temporary location.

If you have any information about who may have stolen the money, you should contact State Police at the Kiski barracks.
