Bethel Park Bank Robbery Suspect Jumps On Counter, Grabs Cash

BETHEL PARK (KDKA) -- Police continue to search for a suspect following a brazen bank robbery Wednesday afternoon in Bethel Park.

It took just a few minutes for the first officers to arrive on the scene of the robbery at the Northwest Savings Bank on Library Road, but the robber was already gone.

The bank's surveillance cameras show a young white male, about 5'9" tall, with a thin build.

He demanded money from the teller and even went for the cash himself.

It happened just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bethel Park Police Chief John Mackey tells KDKA: "[He] immediately reached across the counter, actually jumped up on the counter, and reached over, opened a drawer, grabbed some cash and ran off."

The man was wearing a gray sweatshirt with a red Adidas logo on it. He was also wearing gloves.

"The other distinguishing feature, he was wearing tennis shoes with blue soles and he was last seen when he exited the bank," said Chief Mackey.

The culprit ran north on Route 88.

Tracking dogs were brought in to trace his scent, and police thought they were close for a while. However, no one is in custody.
