Despite Petition, Duck Leaves Sunday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Sadly, we are heading into the final days to see Pittsburgh's giant rubber duck.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announced the giant rubber duck will be leaving Sunday.

The duck came in with a bang during a huge bridge party on Sept. 27.

But the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust said there won't be a going away party on Sunday when the duck leaves town.

However, City of Play is planning a giant game of Duck, Duck, Goose at Point State Park on Sunday.

But not just any game of Duck, Duck, Goose. They're asking for your input on quirky versions of the game.

Some of the ideas so far: Duck, Duck, Mongoose - where players run backwards, and Duck, Duck, Kangaroo -- where players hop.

If you want to play, head to The Point on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Cultural trust says the duck is going to be cleaned, and go into storage until January. It is contractually obligated to another city after that, although they wouldn't say which one.

As of now, there is no plan to bring the duck back to Pittsburgh.

However, there is a petition to keep the duck right here is Pittsburgh.

And many say they support the idea.

"It attracts a lot of people down here," said Jeff Bowser of Kittanning. " They can see how The Point was redone. I think it's great."

"It just makes me happy. It's cheerful," added Janice Laughlin, of Bethel Park. "And I just think we should keep it for a while."
