3 Shot In Lawrence County Home

NEW CASTLE (KDKA/AP) – New Castle police are investigating after three people were shot inside a home early Friday morning.

Police have identified the couple shot in their home along with a third man, but say they still don't know who shot who or why.

New Castle police say a husband and wife who lived at the home on 315 East Hillcrest Avenue, Shawntelle and Montral Johnson, were wounded along with another man identified as Michael Foster.

KDKA's Kym Gable Reports:

Neighbors report hearing shots fired just before 3 a.m.

"It's just really quiet, a lot of older couples, it's just quiet there's no problems up here," neighbor Marc Yoursh said.

KDKA's Kym Gable Reports:

New Castle Police Sgt. Kevin Seelbaugh says that two weapons were found inside the home and believes shots were fired from both weapons.

"Some altercation between the Johnsons and this individual named Michael," said Sgt. Seelbaugh. "What exactly transpired, we don't know. He's on a ventilator, so we can't question him until he's stable and can get off of that machine. The statements that we're given by the Johnsons, we're still trying to sort out whether that information matches the crime scene."

Police say that the Johnsons and Foster are known to police.

Officials say that once they establish the situation, appropriate criminal charges will be filed.

Police expect the Johnsons to be released from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, later Friday, but say Foster was in critical condition with a neck wound and expected to remain hospitalized. Shawntelle Johnson's head was grazed by a bullet, while her husband was shot in his ankle and arm.

KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:

Police aren't commenting on reports that one of the couple's children claimed the home was being robbed.

Charges are expected to be filed as soon as detectives pinpoint exactly what happened.
