PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It seems like just yesterday that the giant yellow rubber duck came floating into Downtown Pittsburgh. However, Sunday was the last day it would be docked at Point State Park.
The duck came in with a bang during a huge bridge party on Sept. 27, and more than one million people have come to visit the attraction over the last three weeks.
This was the first time the duck had ever been in the United States and it quickly became a part of Pittsburgh.
Sadly, the lights went out on the duck around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
“I’m bummed out. I think it’s sad. I think he’s going to San Diego though, but I heard Pittsburgh had the best welcoming party for the duck and I think it’ll stay that way,” one woman said.
The Cultural Trust said the duck is going to be cleaned and will go into storage until January. It is contractually obligated to another city after that, although they wouldn’t say which one.
As of now, there is no plan to bring the duck back to Pittsburgh.
The duck is expected to float down the Ohio River around 8 a.m. to an undisclosed location where it will be deflated.
However, there is a petition to keep the duck right here is Pittsburgh.
And many say they support the idea.
