Police Investigating After 2 Pit Bulls Found In Dumpster

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was in a dumpster in the city's Lincoln-Lemington section where a woman said she thought she saw two men dump a body wrapped in what looked like a carpet or a blanket.

A neighbor, Keith Epps, went to check it out on Apple Street and found two dogs instead.

"It probably was dog fights," said Epps. "I guess after the dog was so beat up, I guess they wanted to take them out of their misery or something."

It turns out his instinct about dog fighting were right. Police arrived at the scene and found two black pit bull dogs.

According to the police report, "The animals showed obvious signs of starvation. The animals also had signs of fighting to include old and new cuts and bruises on the head and neck."

Sources close to the investigation describe the area as a dumping ground for pit bulls used in fighting.

Sources confirm four other pit bulls in similar condition were found in the same dumpster over the summer.

KDKA's Marty Griffin: "What kind of a person would use a dog like this?"

Epps: "I guess a heartless person. People who don't have no feeling for animals, life."

Police have several detectives investigating the case and have several leads and suspects.
