House Filled With Ammunition Burns During Trick-Or-Treating

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fire broke out at a home in Bethel Park Thursday night – right in the middle of trick-or-treating.

Crews got to the scene on Tischler Road within minutes of the first calls.

The fire started in the garage, where some ammunition was stored.

"It was banging off the garage door," said Bethel Park Fire Chief Dave Gerber, "And it was banging big enough that it was shaking the driveway and concrete outside."

"We were giving out Halloween candy and we heard popping and the garage door opened," said neighbor Debbie Ferlic. "Kids were trick-or-treating and we were trying to get the kids away from the house."

Most of the fire was contained to the garage; however, windows shattered throughout the house.

There is a lot of damage and cleanup will be tough for the couple living in the house. They were not home when the fire broke out.

Neighbors say the two are engaged. Their wedding planned for next week.

The couple's dog was rescued from the house and taken from the scene for medical treatment. The animal is expected to be okay.

No one was hurt.
