1 Killed In Kittanning Head-On Crash

KITTANNING (KDKA/AP) – One person was killed in an early Sunday morning accident in Armstrong County.

According to the Armstrong County Coroner's Office, the accident happened on State Route 422 near Cornish Road around 1:47 a.m.

Terry McClafferty, 37, of Ford City, was traveling west on State Route 422 when his 2006 Dodge pickup truck was hit head-on by a 1999 Ford F 350.

McClafferty was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford pickup was identified by police as 23-year-old Jonathon Brandon Miller. Miller's vehicle allegedly crossed the double yellow lines of the highway into oncoming traffic. His condition was not immediately available.

His daughter Tabitha remembers fond memories of her father fishing and watching NASCAR.

"My dad tried to get off of the road and he was completely in my dad's lane," she said. "He crossed a double yellow line to hit my dad head-on -- my dad even tried swerving off the road and he still hit him head-on."

Police are waiting for lab results. The highway reopened at about 8 a.m.

Because of pending toxicology reports, the driver has not been charged -- a fact that is upsetting for Tabitha McClafferty.

"Because his consequences took my dad's life," she said. "And I'll never see my dad again now."
