Ribbon Cut On New Fitness Trail In South Park

SOUTH PARK (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald joined the "Friends of South Park" Friday afternoon, cutting the ribbon on a new Fitness Trail.

There are 20 exercise stations.

Project leader Sharon Adams says the stations can be used any way you choose, adding that her group raised $10,000 through golf tournaments and other events.

"I said, 'Let's find a beautiful fit trail that goes in with the natural surroundings,' and it got installed by the county," she says "So, I was very excited about this."

Trail designer Tom Woods says the Fitness Trail makes a loop of about a mile.

"We wanted to keep it in one area," he recalls. "Make it a little more accessible for the elderly, the handicapped, whoever. Keep it along the pathway. And this way they could just stay in one area."

Woods says the Fitness Trail has something for everyone.

"Little kids, older people, everyone's out here. It's nice," she said.
