Officers Thanked For Pulling Woman From Braddock Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Four police officers - three from Braddock and one from neighboring Rankin - were cited for their courage and bravery Tuesday night by Braddock Mayor John Fetterman.

The four officers were given special plaques stemming from a house fire on Nov. 2.

Lavonda Pompey was pulled from her apartment by the officers before firefighters arrived on the scene to attack a kitchen fire.

Pompey thanked the officers at Tuesday's Borough Council meeting, saying, "I love you, if it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't be here."

Three of the officers were treated for smoke inhalation.

Pompey, who has now moved in with her brother in North Braddock, spent several days in the hospital recovering after she was rescued.
